Hi Mary

What a fantastic article & so impressively written - its such a unique article - a unique happening & you & Eddie are the stars.

Best of all - you found him & he is so well & fit - you were both brought back to 1945 - truly amazing story .

Had always wondered in the back of my mind & dont suppose you spoke of it of him or his years during cultural revolution when so many had black marks against them especially having association with Americans - so brutally treated - just hoped he never had to go thru any of it.

Perhaps he was already in the far away province as it was worse in the main cities.

cheers angela

Re: [weihsien_camp] from Guizhou Metropolitan Daily

Correction: People’s Daily is the newspaper that is printed in Chinese and plans to follow up with another Weihsien story.

Its first story about the reunion was featured on page one.

Re: [weihsien_camp] from Guizhou Metropolitan Daily

With the help of my nephew, James Taylor, who was my escort and translator on this trip, I hope soon to forward in one blast copies of all 18 letters I delivered to Mr. Wang. The Chinese newspapers have quoted portions from several of these letters.

China Daily tells me they plan to follow with another article about Weihsien. Their story of our reunion is the lead story on page one. My frustration is finding someone to translate those stories that are printed exclusively in Chinese — like China Daily.

[weihsien_camp] from Guizhou Metropolitan Daily [1 Attachment]

Translated by Long Yunfei, daughter-in-law of “Eddie” Wang.

Ms. Long, who teaches English at Ningbo University, graciously agreed to translate this newspaper article from the Guizhou newspaper where Mr Wang lives.

[weihsien_camp] Reunion with Weihsien liberator, "Eddie" Wang

http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/world/2016-07/27/content_26246352.htm

The tender story of my reunion with our Weihsien liberator, “Eddie” Wang, keeps making folks happy throughout China. It appeared last week in both Chinese and English versions of China Daily, the largest news publication in China. It appeared in the Guiyang newspaper where Mr. Wang lives, and word arrived today that it is being broadcast on the Shanghai subway. Oh, my!

A three-person team from Shandong province arrived two days early into Guiyang to create its own story. I’ve not yet seen that account.

I have no idea how this reunion story reached the Daily Mail in England.

Serving in public life for most of my life, I’ve never seen so many smiles of delight beaming from a crowd of reporters. Clearly the press corps in this case feels that happy news is very GOOD news.

Our dear Weifang friend, Sui ShuDe, is certainly responsible for spreading the words about this reunion. All of us who have attended the 2005 and/or the 2015 reunions at Weihsien know and love Mr. Sui. He is the very proud creator of the Weihsien museum that is now housed in what we knew as the hospital building. Mr. Sui came to visit me last week in Zhenjiang. What a treasured friend!

Mr. Wang gave me answers to several questions asked by a number of you. When my body recovers from jet lag, I’ll pass along that information.
