[weihsien_camp] Weihsien: embroidered parachute silk
Weihsien mementos of our Liberation Day:
Please help.
I am trying to track down as much information I can get about pieces of parachute silk embroidered by women and girls in Weihsien after liberation. The one I have was given to me by Carol Orlich, widow of Weihsien liberator, Peter Orlich. it includes the date of Liberation Day: August 17th, 1945 It includes a silver B-24 at the top of the photo and 7 men parachuting from that plane. Next to each man is the pencil signature of that hero. The lower left corner of the silk pictures the top of the church building near the entrance to the camp.
Liberator, Mr.Eddie Wang, told me a Greek girl in Weihsien gave him one of these pieces of embroidered and autographed parachute silk.
Who else has an embroidered memento like this? Please tell me everything you know about these pieces of parachute silk. Was it a gift? A souvenir? Did you embroider it yourself?
Who drew the original drawing of this moment of liberation?
Was this silk made from one of the parachutes actually used by our heroes when they parachuted from the B-24 Liberator?
Could you e-mail me a photo?
