Re: [weihsien_camp] sad news ...
Very sad news indeed. Mary was such a strong force in helping everyone on this list stay in contact with each other and continue to inspire anyone who could contribute articles or help descendants learn more about their relatives who were in the camps. Her spirit will live on and my condolences to her family and to the Weihsien family as well.

[weihsien_camp] Our numbers are dwindling
We will all miss Mary dearly
I was always dropping her notes with questions and she was so prompt in
answering my questions.
Three of that family are now enjoying heaven
Kathleen, James and now Mary.
In January we lost Joyce Shrank-Ditmanson-Cotterill--another one with
wealth of memories and a key person from our Weihsien days.
I have a question.
How many wrote to our soldiers who wrote in our autograph books with
their addresses there in camp?
Kathleen and I tried one time calling the Staigers in Portland--but we
did not research how to properly trace someone.

Awwwww, I'm so sad. She wrote me recently and also helped me when I curated the show on my Dad's China work, which included a large section on Weihsien.

Couldn't agree more Alison. I only met Mary once, when she travelled to the UK for a special anniversary of the China Inland Mission. It was such a pleasure to talk to her and I soon became hooked on her search for her seven heroes. I always had the feeling she was invincible. She is certainly unforgettable and will be sorely missed.

What a triumphant life! Mary brought such energy and enthusiasm to every contact she made that I know of. Her tireless pursuit of our seven weihsien liberators was what connected us most. She knew every birthday, every important happening in these seven men’s lives and encouraged us to celebrate their gift to us on so many occasions, but that enthusiasm was clearly there in every job she tackled with love throughout her life. She will be missed and remembered.
Well done, Mary, and thank you.

I am very saddened to see this. She was a wealth of knowledge and had such a solid memory of things.
