Dear Alan,

Thanks for your message.

Sure, (…) if you wish to share a scan of your painting signed by Eric Liddell and his brother with the Weihsien-paintings’ website I’d be glad to add it to Norman Cliff’s chapter all about Eric Liddell. When I built the website a few years ago, I found quite a lot about him in all Norman’s scrapbooks with all the supplementary info comming from the Chefoo kids (and others).

Of course, with the scan, please send us a text explaining the story related to that work of art.

Best regards,
Leopold (from Belgium)

Subject: PEONY PAINTING

Hello.

I own a peony painting by Eric Liddell. It was a gift to my maternal grandfather who apparently went on to know him quite well, after seeing him at a meeting in Sunderland in the 1920s. It is signed by Liddell himself and his brother, Robert.

It came down through my mother, and my siblings and I inherited it from my father in 2023.

Subject: Fifth Anniversary of Weifang being Awarded the title of International City of Peace

Dear Leopold,

In 2026, we will mark the important milestone of the fifth anniversary of Weifang being awarded the title of International City of Peace. As witnesses to the history of the Weihsien Concentration Camp during World War II and as inheritors of the memory of peace, your experiences and voices hold irreplaceable significance for this city.

To authentically reflect the resonance of this belief, we plan to play congratulatory videos from around the world, especially those closely connected to this history, at the commemoration event for the fifth anniversary of Weifang being awarded the title of International City of Peace in 2026. We sincerely invite you to share your greetings and wishes through a video recording, allowing every participant at the event to feel the power of peace that transcends time and space.

Video Content Suggestions:
- A brief self-introduction (name, connection to the Weihsien Concentration Camp).
- Your personal understanding of "peace" (reflections based on history or the present).
- Blessings or messages for Weifang as an International City of Peace.

Technical Requirements:
- Please record in landscape orientation, with stable footage, clear lighting, and a duration of 1–2 minutes.

Your participation will add depth and warmth that transcend time and space to this commemoration. If you are willing to participate or have any questions, please feel free to contact us at any time. Thank you for your invaluable contribution to preserving the memory of peace.

Warm regards,
Weihsien West Civilians Concentration Camp Site Museum

Subject: RE: Merry Christmas

Dear Mr. Neal Wu, the Weihsien Museum staff and families,

Many thanks for your best wishes for our Christmas and New Year rejoicings in the Occidental World.
In China ― as I have read on the Internet ― your New Year rejoicings will go from February 17 to march 3rd and it will be the year of the Fire Horse.
Our best wishes to you all ― in advance.
As webmaster of the Weihsien-paintings website, I have started a chapter about the 80-year celebrations of our liberation by the Americans in 1945.
GoTo:
http://weihsien-paintings.org/80YearsAfter/index80.php

Maybe you too have also explored this chapter as the families Stanley, Kilbride, Darrell, and Cliff maybe have done ― children and grandchildren of ex-prisoners.
If any of you read this message, we (the old ‘timers of Weihsien all over 80 now) would appreciate having a short summary (and photos) of your adventures in Weifang during these celebrations.
Mr. Sui ShuDe always told me that the best food in China was to be found in Shandong! How about it? The celebrations? Boring or joyful? Did you visit the kite museum as we did, 10 years ago? What else?
A member of the Weihsien Museum staff could also write a short résumé of the few days you have hosted the families that came to visit Weifang from so far away!

Thanks for reading me,
Leopold (ex-prisoner and webmaster)

… today is Christmas Day.
Merry Christmas to y’all 😊 and a Happy New Year 2026.
Good health and happiness.
Day after day, we appreciate being alive.

Subject: Merry Christmas

Dear Leopold and ex-weihsien prisoners,

As the Christmas season approaches, the Weihsien West Civilians Concentration Camp Site Museum extends its warmest holiday greetings and best wishes to you and your family.
May this festive season, filled with love and hope, bring you warmth, peace, and joy. We always remember that special period of history and are grateful for the memories and courage carried by every survivor and their descendants. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Weihsien Concentration Camp. The Stanley, Kilbride, Darrell, and Cliff families visited the former site of the Weihsien Concentration Camp and joined us in a series of commemorative activities. These precious stories and friendships are a shared heritage we cherish and a bridge connecting the past with the future.
Thank you for your continued attention and support. If you have any stories, materials, or thoughts you would like to share, please feel free to reach out to us.
Once again, we wish you a Merry Christmas, a healthy New Year, and happiness for your entire family!

Warm regards,
Weihsien West Civilians Concentration Camp Site Museum
