Re: [weihsien_camp] Photos

Dear Angela and Leopold,

I really enjoyed seeing Angela’s pictures of the Weihsien reunion- most of them were new for me! My sister Louise and her daughter Jeannette had a wonderful time there and my camp neighbours, Leopold and Janette were present on many of the pictures! I also have a good impression of Angela now. Well done, Leopold for arranging Angela’s pictures.

Greetings, Anne de Jongh

[weihsien_camp] Photos

Dear Angela,

I finally finished the layout for the photos you took this summer in Weihsien. You can read them at this URL: http://weihsien-paintings.org/70YearsAfter/Photos/AngelaCox/Angela(WEB).pdf

I did not include any captions. Maybe you could help me for that if, however, you want them for all our Weihsien friends who could not come to the 2015-reunion !

Bien amicalement,
Leopold

Re: [weihsien_camp] Fw: Fwd: On Yige's behalf

Thanks Mary
Thanks Mark

and – of course – thanks to China TV for giving us permission to link their web-page to the Weihsien-Paintings’ website.

There is now a link on the home page and in the “log-book” ...
What we would like to have, is an English version of the documentary and a version in *mp4 for our website! As for the documentary, though I didn’t understand the Chinese commentary, I liked it very much. Very well built and filmed and the interviews (in English) were great.

Best regards,
Leopold

PS All the videos for the 70-year anniversary are in one place:

Re: [weihsien_camp] Fw: Fwd: On Yige's behalf

Audrey, I was not informed that this documentary was to be broadcast until the day after the broadcast. The producer has given permission for this documentary to be posted on Leopold's Weihsien web site. So your Chinese friends should be able to access it. I'm sure Leopold will notify us as soon as he has posted it on that web site.

Our Weihsien liberator, Wang ChengHan, watched this broadcast.

I'm told that there may be an English DVD may be produced, but I have no further information.

Re: [weihsien_camp] Fw: Fwd: On Yige's behalf

I too received it and watched it—emotional.

will it be out in all English in the future—?

Thank you for letting us know—disappointed our Chinese contacts could not be contacted ahead with knowledge—but maybe they were prompted to turn T.V. on and it came up for them--

Not knowing the Chinese—I missed so much of it.

I never did fully watch the one with James Taylor 111 on it—as it didn’t seem to work for me—is it still available.

We do not have a good internet program—so restricted.
Thank you again for what everyone does to contribute to this site.

I’m requesting permission for it to be posted on your web site.

Hi Leopold,

You are doing a great job. I think Ms. Huang can communicate in English. If not, I can help with translation next time.

[weihsien_camp] The Stanley-Wilder Saga and others in Tungchou

I was hoping that someone here might be able to help me track down the remaining parts of the Stanley-Wilder Saga (parts 1-4). I have access to part 5 from weihsien-paintings.org, and am interested in the earlier records. Most of my current research looks at missionaries serving in Tungchou (or Tunghsien), near Beijing. The Wilder's spent time there teaching at a school in the 1930s.

Additionally, I am sure there are also others who spent time in Tungchou who ended up at the Weihsien Camp during the war. Any information regarding the Stanley and Wilder papers (or other missionaries who served in Tungchou prior or during the war) would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks to Leopold for adding me to this group and for those who have already contacted me with suggestions. The Weihsien camp is a fascinating part of history that I knew little about before coming across the website.

Thanks!
Spencer Stewart

[weihsien_camp] Re: Fw:

Dear Spencer,

Donald Menzi, the person who shared all his family data with the Weihsien-Paintings’ website, ... unfortunately died a few years ago. He had a personal website too, ... but that disappeared from the WWW after his death. Most of “my” data was linked to “his” website. I had to re-arrange his chapter on my website – the best I could. Some elements are missing !!

All the data on the Weihsien-Paintings’ website is virtual. Everything has been sent to me from all over the planet, thanks to the “Internet-miracle” and that is why you can consult all this data --- free access and non-commercial.

The best I can do for the moment is to forward your request to our chat-list on Yahoo hoping that somebody of Donald’s family will help you ...

Let me know?

Best regards,
Leopold

Hello,

I am a graduate student at the University of Chicago studying Christian missionaries in China during the early twentieth century. In my research, I came across your website on Weihsien, which is very interesting and rich in sources recounting individual experiences. Thank you for your time and dedication to providing easy access to this information!

I had a question for you regarding where I might find additional information for one of the sources. I find on your website Part Five of "The Stanley-Wilder Saga, 1862-1962." I was wondering if you know how to get access to parts 1-4 of this collection? Do you personally have these files or do you know who I can contact to get a hold of them?

I look forward to hearing back from you!
